The genesis of Columbus Travel occurred back in 1995 when successful
travel executives Mark Faldmo and Larry Gelwix sold their interest in a
$150M super regional agency, and began a travel club, reaching thousands
of travelers around the country. Once a restrictive non-compete
agreement was completed, Faldmo and Gelwix officially formed Columbus
Travel in 2001 and have experienced double digit growth annually since
then.
Columbus has also overcome many obstacles that were out of its
control since that time - including the negative effects of 9/11, SARS,
wars, economic downturns, airline commission cuts, and terrorist-based
unrest in general.
Today Utah based - Columbus Travel ranks among the top travel
companies in the country with several reputable vendors (cruise lines,
airlines, hotel chains, etc.) As Mark and Larry (NOTE: Larry is known
regionally on TV and radio as "The Getaway Guru") have assessed the
primary factors behind this successful growth, they attribute them to
their ability to negotiate extraordinary deals with travel suppliers and
efficiently marketing them to their clients. They also have staffed the
company with experienced agents averaging over 15 years in the industry,
and maintain a very low employee turnover rate.
